The booklet of good practices in the sustainable management of mountain pastures is out

In April 2021, OREKA MENDIAN published a booklet of good practices showcasing 31 inspiring examples for the sustainable management of mountain grasslands gathered across 18 European countries.

OREKA MENDIAN is a project to support sustainable pasture in the French and Spanish Basque Country’s mountain pastures with Euromontana, which is the European multi-stakeholder network of mountain actors present in 15 EU countries and who advocates for the sustainable development of these areas.

These good practices will inspire farmers, breeders and other local actors to increase the biodiversity of mountain grasslands, tackled climate change impacts and better market their products, among many others.

In fact, many good practices refer to livestock management, improving life and working conditions of shepherds and valorising livestock products (such as dairy and meat products).

Good practices were selected through desk/web research and a survey done at EU level in December 2018.

The OREKA MENDIAN booklet is available in English and French and will soon be available in Spanish.
